Tribe of Asher

Asher meaning "happy" was the eighth son of Jacob, born to Zilpah. The scriptures indicate that he led one of the most prosperous and abundant tribes. Asher and his later tribe were characterized by their happiness, prosperity, and rich food. The Tribe of Asher inherited the territory to the furthest northwest in the Israelite territory. It included the cities of Sidon and Tyre. Today, this territory is part of the country of Lebanon in the Middle East. The region was and continues to be fertile, with plenty of opportunities for growing olive trees. The olive oil production in the area correlates with the blessing that Moses gave in Deuteronomy
